I have used Event Log explorer through the demo and showed my "higher ups" what a valuable tool it can be for a research tool with regards to going through event logs on a server. Great job on that. I have played with some of the free source code programs but nothing matches the stability and features this program has.
I do have some quirks and request:
- The date field on a filter is always set to 12/30/1899, is there settings or changes that can be made to have this to detect the current system date?
- when licensing the software installed on a server, i logon as my username and register the software. Logged on as another user and I had to register the software again. Is there another way to register the software globally, for any user logging onto the server?
- I access servers on multiple domains and I have to provide authentication for those domains when opening the log. When I open Event Log Explorer it opens my last saved workspace and always prompts me for my credentials to the servers on the other domains. This causes Event Log Explorer to open slowly. Is there a setting that I can set to tell it to not load the logs until I drill down into a server, so it improves the load time? _________________ shawn melton

1- it's our bug - it will be fixed in the next version (coming soon)
2- we will think about it, but do you really need to run Elex under so many accounts on one server?
3 - Open Preference dialog, select Workspace and uncheck "Remove event log windows". |

I work on a network team that has 3 technicians and then I have 2 developers that monitor application services running on a server. Those applications write pretty much everything they do to the application event log.
To monitor and ensure the application and system is running as it should I have multiple people logging onto any of the servers checking the event log.
Some of the monitoring is done from home or outside of the LAN so running Event Log explorer from the client can be slow due to the VPN connection so it requires logging onto the server to view logs.
This is common in that it is quicker to logon to the server and check the event log that waiting for 200k events to load from my laptop, especially in an emergency. _________________ shawn melton

Ok, understand you.
We will add a keyfile support (you'll be able to place a key file into event log explorer folder and it will be available for all users. |
