Prepare
to set time limits for users
To set the user time restriction policy, you need
to add users to the list of restricted objects.
To add a user to the list:
- Run Access Boss if it has not been run yet.
- Click Add button (alternatively you can select
Object -> Add to List from the main menu).
- Select the user you wish to limit time in the
list, then press OK button.
- The user will be added to the restriction list as <COMPUTER>\<USER
NAME>.
Please note that you cannot add Administrator account to the list of restricted
objects.
Prepare
to set time limits for the computer
To set the computer power-on time restriction policy, you need
to add the computer to the list of restricted objects.
To add the computer to the list:
- Run Access Boss if it has not been run yet
- Click Add button (alternatively you can select Object ->
Add to List from the main menu)
- Select "THIS COMPUTER" from the list, the press OK button
- The computer will be added to the restriction list as <COMPUTER
NAME>\THIS COMPUTER
Prevent
users from accessing the computer at certain time
You can assign on and off hours for each user. To do so, highlight the user
account in the list of restricted objects, activate Logon hours restrictions
page in the right pane of Access Boss and use Access Time Matrix to enable
or disable the user access at certain time (of week). If the user works at
off-time Access Boss Restriction Service will switch this user off depending
on the switch off method.
Specify
for how long the user may access the computer
With Access Boss you can specify how long the user may spend
time with the computer every day. Highlight the user account in
the list of restricted objects, activate Working time duration
restrictions page in the right pane of Access Boss and specify
time duration limits. There are 3 options available:
- No working time duration limits - the user will not be restricted
on working time duration.
- Limit every day working time to hh:mm - the user can
access the computer not longer then hh:mm every day.
- Limit working time on the checked day to - allows you to specify
flexible time duration limits, you can set different working
time duration restrictions for each day of week.
When a restricted user exceeds the allowed amount of time, Access Boss Restriction
Service will switch this user off.
Define
time when the computer can be on
You can assign on and off hours for the whole computer. This option is designed
to prevent computer from being used at inappropriate time (e.g. at night).
To set the computer power-on and power-off hours with Access Boss, highlight
"THIS COMPUTER" in the list of restricted objects, activate Logon
hours restrictions page in the right pane of Access Boss and use Access Hours
Matrix to set on and off hours for the computer. If the computer happens to
be powered on at the off-hour, Access Boss Restriction Service will turn the
computer off.
Please note that if you switched the computer on when computer restrictions
are active, you have 1 minute of grace time to logon as administrator to override
these restrictions.
Specify
for how long the computer can be on
With Access Boss you can specify the maximum period of time during
which the computer can be on. Highlight "THIS COMPUTER"
in the list of restricted objects, activate Working time duration
restrictions page in the right pane of Access Boss and specify
time duration limits. There are 3 options available:
- No working time duration limits - the computer will not be
restricted on working time duration.
- Limit every day working time to hh:mm - the computer
can be on not longer then hh:mm every day.
- Limit working time on the checked day to - allows you to specify
flexible time duration limits, you can set different working
time duration restrictions for each day of week.
Access Boss Restrictions Service will turn the computer off when the computer
power-on time exceeds the specified threshold.
Please note that if you switched the computer on when computer restrictions
are active, you have 1 minute of grace time to logon as administrator to override
these restrictions.
Prevent
users from changing system time
When you manage time limitations, you may want to protect system
time from being changed. By default Administrators and Power Users
groups may change the system time. To change the default settings,
select Computer->Permissions from main menu and select Change
time page in the Security permissions dialog. Use Add and Remove
buttons to specify your own Change System Time Policy.
Set
user restrictions: who can logon the computer and who cannot
Some users may try to cheat Access Boss by creating a new user account and
logging on with this account when the allowed user time is over. To counteract
to such cheating, you should specify the list of user who can logon the computer.
All other users (existing and forthcoming) will not be able to use the computer
at all. To set these restrictions select Computer->Permissions from main
menu and select Logon page in the Security permissions dialog. Tick "Only
these users can logon this computer" and use Add and Remove buttons to
populate the list of the authorized users.
Note: Since Access Boss version 3.0, you don't need to add yourself to the
list of authorized users. The user who installed Access Boss is considered
as Access Boss administrator.
Disable
the user account or set account expiration date
To disable the user account or set the account expiration date,
highlight the user in the list of restricted objects and select
Object->Properties from the Access Boss main menu. Set the
desired arrangements in the User Properties window.
View
how long the user used the computer or the computer ran
Access Boss gathers statistics on how long each user was logged
on and the computer was powered on. To view this statistics, highlight
the desired user or "THIS COMPUTER" in the list of restricted
objects, then select Object->Statistics from the main menu.
Please note that Access Boss keeps statistics only for the last
30 days.
Set
time restrictions policy on a remote computer
You can set time limitation policy on other computers over network. To limit
user or computer time on a remote computer, you need to install Access Boss
on this computer first (you can just install User's components). To manage
the remote Access Boss settings, select Computer->Connect to Another Computer
from the main menu. If you have problems with establishing the connection,
you should adjust your computer settings according to Important
notice for network users.
